Website Moodboard!

The first thing I do when I start a project is create a mood-board. A mood-board helps determine the art style and color palette of the project. Some lecturers are against mood-boards and some push us to create one. For me, a mood-board helps me visualise what I am trying to create. Once I have finished creating a mood-board I already know what the world, character, etc look like. For the first time, I have created a mood-board for a code project. In the past we were given a brief of what the project should look like and the functions. Now I am designing it from scratch so therefore I need to decide what the design of the website should look like.

For this project I made the decision to go with the theme: Paris. I want it to be a almost like a tourist guide website. For the visuals I am drawn to soft pastel watercolour that is contrasting with a strong bold black line. I would like the website to look like a watercolour painting of a website. Here is a mood- board I designed of the art style that I am going for. My next step will be to plan the layout and navigation on paper and create a prototype on Photoshop.

First attempt at website design!

Here is a basic website design I created for my media project 3 assignment. I created this back in November in 2016. The idea was to improve an existing website and add extra features that you thought would boast views. Irish Tatler is an Irish fashion magazine and I felt that their website lacked video content. People are more likely to watch a 5 minute beauty tutorial video than read a 5 minute paragraph about a beauty tutorial. Therefore I filmed a video of myself, uploaded it to Youtube and embedded it into the webpage. At the time, I only knew basic HTML and CSS. We didn't start Javascript until the next semester. This design is mainly images and font with a video embedded from Youtube. This is an example of my starting point and where I am at with website design.

The links in the top nav bar take you to their actual website. The link in the "Gallery of Products" takes you to the second page I designed which is below.

When you click on one of the images, a box will appear with a smaller image of the product and the products details..

Pressing the gold X will close the box.

It is clear I need to work on many areas but that is the point of this blog. To improve and grow!

Welcome!

Hey! What's up? My name is Katie Whelan and welcome to my little blog.

The main reason I am starting this code blog is to showcase my past code projects and also develop my skills in HTML, CSS and Javascript. I am currently in 3rd year studying creative digital media. I have 9 months until final year and I seriously need to improve my code skills. I want to have excellent skills in HTML, CSS and Javascript before I begin the scary journey of final year. My goal is work on a new code project every two weeks and upload my progress weekly to the blog. Starting in January, I will upload a finish website design with my feedback on it. Additionally I will be researching the Principles of Design, graphic design and additional design elements because they are important when designing a website. This blog is for me and for me to document my website design journey. If you do read this, I hope you enjoy!
